Ambition is an important aspect of our lives. We need it. It drives us to accomplish great things and to get stuff done. Without ambition, we would still be wearing animal skins and living in caves. However, ambition, like almost everything, must be used in moderation. You must be able to put limits on your ambition if you wish to use it properly. Not everyone does. Those that don't do that usually become well known for all the wrong reasons. A prime example of this Muammar Gaddafi.
If you can recall, Gaddafi was the infamous and eccentric dictator of Libya who will soon have a movie out based on his life. He started out as the son of a goatherder and was ambitious enough to become a succesful ruler of an oil-rich North African. However, he didn't put checks on ambition. To come to power, he led a military coup d'état that capitalized on the unpopularity of the ruling government and other political turmoil at the time. He got rid of rivals and put himself firmly in power. He silenced critics whatever way necessary and limited personal freedom. He was clearly the top dog Libya.http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-25979532
However, in 2010, the wheels of change began to turn in an oppressed Middle East and North Africa. People were beginning to take back their power from the governments that had ruled over them for countless years. Eventually, this event, kniw as the Arab Spring, came. The peaceful protests thta had gained worked in many neighboring countries were not working in Libya though. There was soon an openly armed rebellion against Gaddafi. In a true sign of his unbelievablely large ambition, Gaddafi refused to step down even when almost all his country was turned against him. It stayed this way until he was killed at the hands of rebels, ambitious and stubborn until the very end. He remains a perfect example of why we should be ambitious, but do it in moderation.

Peace.
And don't be like this guy ⬇

Very Interesting! I never really followed what was happening with Gaddafi, but this is really interesting. Gaddafi should have stepped down before he got killed.
ReplyDeleteI went into this without knowing a thing about Gaddafi. You really shed some light on Gaddafi and ambition! I was most surprised by his upbringing. Who would have imagined a goat herder would rule over people!
ReplyDeleteJack Attacks with an amazing story about Gaddafi that shows how people from the poorest backgrounds can still become, as Mr. Glenn states, " a Dic...tator".
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Gregory is a funny dude.
DeleteNice Jack, I never thought of Ghadaffi but he is surely a prime example of this "negative ambition".
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they were making a movie about his life. Good example of ambition, though.
